Your privacy matters to HitchRally LLC ("HitchRally," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have when you use the HitchRally platform at hitchrally.com and related services. We've written this to be highly transparent about how we handle your personal information.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Account information: Name and email address, collected during registration (via Google OAuth or magic link via Supabase Auth).
  • Phone numbers: Collected when a host invites you as a guest or when you provide your number in your account settings for notifications.
  • Vibe Quiz responses: Your preferences about party style, budget range, group size, and destination interests.
  • Party data: Itineraries, polls, votes, expenses, RSVP status, and member lists created and shared within your groups.
  • Payment information: Handled entirely by Stripe for premium features. We never process or store your full credit card numbers.

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage and analytics data: Standard web analytics, cookies, session data, pages visited, and interaction metrics.

Information we DO NOT collect:

  • Location tracking: We only know the destination preferences you freely enter; we do not track your device's live GPS location.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide our services: Generating personalized itineraries via AI, coordinating group RSVPs, managing polls, and calculating expense splits.
  • To communicate with you: Sending essential notifications regarding party invites, itinerary updates, and account security.
  • To improve our platform: Analyzing aggregated usage data to fix bugs and build better features.
  • To process transactions: Managing premium tier subscriptions and payments via Stripe.

3. SMS/Text Messaging

  • Consent: By providing your phone number, or by a host inviting you to a party via SMS, you consent to receive text messages from HitchRally.
  • Message Types & Frequency: You may receive messages regarding party invites, itinerary updates, poll notifications, and expense reminders via Twilio. Message frequency varies based on your party activity.
  • Opting Out: You can cancel the SMS service at any time by replying "STOP". After you send the SMS message "STOP", we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from that number.
  • Help: If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword "HELP" for more assistance, or you can get help directly at support@hitchrally.com.
  • Costs: Message and data rates may apply for any messages sent to you from us and to us from you.
  • Privacy: Mobile information will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

4. AI Data Processing

  • How it works: Your Vibe Quiz answers (budget, group size, destination, style) are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to generate a personalized party itinerary.
  • No model training: Anthropic does NOT use our API inputs or your personal data to train their fundamental AI models by default. Your data is processed solely to generate your requested itinerary.
  • Disclaimer: All AI-generated outputs are for informational and entertainment purposes only. HitchRally is not responsible for the availability or quality of suggested venues or activities.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers. We share data only with the following trusted third-party service providers who assist in operating our platform:

  • Supabase: For secure database hosting, user authentication, and file storage (hosted in the US).
  • Anthropic (Claude API): For processing Vibe Quiz inputs into itinerary suggestions.
  • Twilio: For delivering SMS messages (shares phone numbers and message content).
  • Stripe: For processing payments and maintaining PCI compliance.
  • Vercel: For cloud hosting and deployment of the HitchRally website.

Additionally, party data (itineraries, expenses, names) is inherently shared with the other users who have securely joined your specific party group.

6. Cookies and Tracking

  • We use cookies and standard session tracking to keep you logged in and understand how you navigate the site.
  • We use basic web analytics to track page views and feature usage so we can improve the HitchRally experience.
  • You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings, though this may prevent some platform features from working.

7. Data Retention

  • We retain your account information and party data as long as your account is active to provide our services.
  • If you request to delete your account, your personal data will be securely removed from our active databases.
  • Aggregated and fully anonymized data may be kept indefinitely for platform analytics.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have specific rights regarding your personal data. HitchRally LLC extends these rights to all our users, regardless of location:

General Rights:

  • Access: The right to know what personal data we have collected about you.
  • Correction: The right to update or correct inaccurate data via your account settings.

European Union (GDPR) Rights:

California (CCPA) Privacy Rights:

  • Right to Know categories of personal information collected.

9. Data Security

  • We use industry-standard security measures, including HTTPS encryption and secure database controls (Supabase Row-Level Security), to protect your data.
  • While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's Privacy

  • Our Service is not directed to, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from, children under the age of 13.
  • If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from anyone under the age of 13, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

11. International Data Transfers

  • HitchRally LLC is based in the United States. Your information may be transferred to—and maintained on—computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ.
  • Your consent to this Privacy Policy represents your agreement to that transfer.

  • We may update our Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date.
